DME Parent Engagement Policy

2022-2024 Title 1 School-Level Parent and Family Engagement Policy

Doby's Mill Elementary School has developed a written Title 1 parent and family engagement policy with input from Title 1 parents, community members, teachers and staff. The school welcomes feedback from our parents and community members through our PTA, SIC, surveys and suggestions from events. The policy is distributed to parents each year through a variety of outlets including the Title 1 annual meeting, parent university, newsletters, posts on our school webpage, and media page. The policy describes the means for carrying out the following Title 1 parent and family engagement requirements under the guidelines offered by our district and state.

The goal of this policy is to: (1) Honor and recognize families' knowledge, (2) Connect family engagement to student learning, (3) Create welcoming, inviting cultures, and (4) Develop the capacity of families to negotiate the roles of supporters, advocates, and collaborators.

Involvement of Parents in the Title 1 Program

To involve parents and family members in the Title 1 program at Doby's Mill Elementary School, the following practices have been established: (1) The school covenes an annual meeting, at a convenient time, to which all parents of participating children shall be invited to attend and encouraged to attend to inform parents and family members of their school's participation in the Title 1 program and to explain the requirements, and the right of the parents to be involved, (2) the school involves parents in an organized, ongoing, and timely way, in the planning, review, and improvement of the school's Title 1 program, including the planning, review, and improvement of the school parent and family engagement policy and the joint development of the schoolwide program plan through feedback at meetings and parent surveys. (3) At parent teacher conferences, assessment information on student academic progress and grade level standards are shared with parents. Student progress in relation to state and local standards will be explained to parents including the curriculum being used, grade-level expectations for proficiency, data reporting for state and local assessments and available interventions in reading, ELA, and mathematics for students needing assistance.

Building Capacity for Involvement

Doby's Mill Elementary School engages Title 1 parents in meaningful interactions with the school. It supports a partnership between the school, parents and the community to improve student academic achievement through thoughtfully planned literacy activities that not only promote learning, but are fun as well.

Doby's Mill Elementary School, to the extent practicable, provides opportunities for the informed participation of all parents and family members (including parents and family members with limited English proficiency, parents and family members with disabilities, and parents and family members of migratory students) by providing information and school reports in a format and language that parents understand.
